The California Biotechnology Foundation recently hosted two Biotech 101 legislative staff briefings in San Diego and Pasadena on California’s Life Sciences Industry. More than three dozen legislative staff from the state and federal levels participated during the informational sessions held at Biocom and the Pasadena Bio Collaborative.
Emily Burke, Ph.D., Director of Instruction at BioTech Primer, discussed the fundamentals of biotechnology and the science that is involved with breakthrough treatments. Representatives from Biocom and Biocom Los Angeles discussed the value and costs of developing life-saving medicines, policies to ensure patients in California have access to innovative treatments and investments in STEM education and the state’s biotech-ready workforce.
Future briefings will be scheduled for Northern California legislative staff in the coming months.
